What should an overseas Save the Date say?

Include the couple names, confirmed wedding date, city and country, plus a note that the complete invitation will follow. Add a contact for questions if useful. You do not need to publish an unfinished venue schedule or ask guests to make non-refundable bookings from an unconfirmed announcement.

A simple announcement template

“Save the Date [Groom name] & [Bride name] [Full date and year] [City, country] We would love to celebrate with you. Our complete invitation and event details will follow. [Optional contact]” Replace every placeholder and check both names with the families. If you are announcing several confirmed days, describe the date range clearly and explain which exact event details will follow.

Tell travellers what is dependable

If the date and city are firm but the venue is being finalised, say exactly that. Do not include speculative hotel rates, shuttle timings or flight advice. Guests can decide whether to explore travel without mistaking a visual announcement for a full booking plan.

Coordinate the later invitation

The final invitation should use the same approved names and date, then add event-specific timings, venues and RSVP. Tell guests directly if an announced fact changes. Avoid assuming that a new card will reach everyone who received the original image through forwarded messages.
