When to send your Muslim wedding invitations

A practical timeline for Save the Dates, Nikah and Walima invitations, reminders, venue updates and final RSVP follow-ups.

Start with the guests who need to travel

If close family or friends must arrange flights, trains or accommodation, share a private Save the Date as soon as your date and city are firm. It can be simple: names, date, city and a note that the full invitation will follow.

Send the complete invitation when details are dependable

For many celebrations, six to ten weeks gives guests useful planning time. Send earlier for destination events or busy holiday periods. Wait until the timings and venues are sufficiently reliable; a beautiful invitation is less helpful when its core details are uncertain.

Keep Nikah and Walima information distinct

When the Nikah, Walima and reception have different hosts, guest lists or locations, label each gathering clearly. A wedding website can hold them together while still making every event easy to understand. Share only the events relevant to each guest where family arrangements require it.

Plan one considerate reminder

A short reminder one or two weeks before the celebration is usually more helpful than repeated messages. Include the date, arrival time, venue link and RSVP deadline. If something important changes, contact affected guests directly instead of relying only on an updated invitation.

Close the RSVP loop

Set a response date that leaves enough time for catering and seating decisions. Follow up personally with guests who have not replied, and keep your private response list separate from the public invitation link.

Work backwards from the guest’s decision

Example planning sequence: confirm the date and city; tell travelling guests privately once they can make arrangements; prepare the full invitation when venues and timings are dependable; set an RSVP date based on your caterer’s final-count deadline; send one considerate reminder. This is a planning example, not a rule for every family. A local Nikah and an event with international travel need different lead times.

Allow time to make and check the invitation

Give each gathering a clear response deadline

Ask guests which gatherings they will attend when Nikah and Walima guest lists differ. Keep each event’s date, local time and venue beside its own heading. Confirm responses privately and share final catering counts only with the people who need them. When the venue or timing changes, update the invitation and notify affected guests directly.
